Meet Our Enrichment Teachers

American Sign Language, Theater
Laura Murphy
Laura is a Colorado native, born in a hospital just down the street from her high school, junior high, and the church she was married in 35 years ago. At only 16, she met the love of her life Ken Murphy in high school and God graciously led them both to a saving knowledge of Him. She attended Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA where she studied Musical Theater and also received her teaching credential. A year after they were married, they moved to California for Ken to attend seminary. She “retired” and they began their family in 1993, having 5 children in seven years. In 2006, Laura was diagnosed with Meniere's disease and began suffering hearing loss. She attended Pike’s Peak Community College in Colorado Springs to learn ASL. It became a passion and God placed it upon her heart to use it for ministry. She is excited to share this beautiful language with the children of Southside Classical Academy. She mostly enjoys being “Gigi” to her young grandchildren. She and Ken are charter members of Southside Bible Church since its inception in 1998.
"While beginning this new endeavor with SCA, I think of 1 Peter 4:10-11 “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever.” We are saved to serve and use our talents to love others and in the process bring glory to our great God!"
Laura cannot wait to teach and encourage the children of Southside Classical Academy so they may shine brightly for Christ in a dark world!

Science Lab
Doug Shirley
Doug was born and raised in Aurora, CO. He was blessed to grow up in a Lutheran home, church, and school. In high school, a mutual friend introduced him to Savannah. They would continue to attend Metro State University together where Doug studied Industrial Design. Doug then went on to trade school in Tempe, AZ for Audio Engineering. Once he graduated from school, he and Savannah got married and moved out to Nashville, TN together. There they spent their early years of marriage enjoying God's love in the music city. After a couple of years, they moved back to Colorado to be with family and start one of their own. They started attending Southside Bible Church and over the next 12 years, they were blessed with 5 kids (2 boys and 3 girls). They both are passionate about helping kids and bringing them up in Christ to further His Kingdom.
One of Doug's favorite passages is from Romans 3:23-24 " For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." It reminds us of our need for a savior and that by grace we are saved through Jesus.

Studio Art, Director and Cofounder
Haley Murphy
Haley grew up in Beulah, CO, a small mountain town in southern Colorado (think dirt roads and a great view of the Milky Way at night!). She met her husband Taylor while earning her art degree at the University of Denver and they now reside in Parker with their two daughters ages 2 and 4. Haley focused in ceramics in college but is familiar with all traditional mediums - her favorite studies being a semester-long drawing course in Rome, a 2-week pottery workshop at Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, CO, and most recently, an exploratory course in the mysterious properties of Play-Doh’s ability to homogeneously distribute itself within 2,000 sq. feet. Haley and Taylor are members of Southside Bible Church where she serves in the nursery, women's ministry, and SCA. She was raised attending church but believes the gospel message really "clicked" during a Romans bible study she attended while in college.
“A verse that is resonating strongly with me these days is Galatians 6:9-10 - 'Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.' The Lord has placed me in a beautiful season of fullness and I marvel at how my time seems to multiply when spent unto the benefit of my family and the body of Christ."

Haley's most recent art project was painting the downtown Parker chair, but she is excited to share her love for the Lord and love for creating with the children at SCA.

Life Cycles
Savannah Shirley
Savannah was born and raised in Aurora, Colorado in a family of believers. Even from a very young age she had a passion for children, always knowing she wanted to be a teacher and a mom. She started babysitting at 12 and all throughout middle school and high school her faith deepened. She attended youth groups, mission trips, and daily works on her walk with God. When she graduated HS, Savannah started working at a daycare to pay for her College. She attended Metropolitan State University of Denver where she graduated with her K-6 teaching license and a bachelor’s in Human Development. After a year of teaching at Coyote Hills Elementary, Savannah married Douglas and they moved to Nashville for his career. Savannah continued working in schools until May of 2014 when Douglas and her welcomed their first son Lucas. It was also at this time that they first attended Southside Bible Church. Savannah then became a stay at home mom, welcoming four more children over the next 7 years. With her teaching background, homeschooling their children always felt like the next logical step. When Haley began this journey of a Church School in Southside, Savannah and Douglas knew they wanted to be a part of it. They are excited to see how God uses Southside Classical Academy and are honored to join alongside. A Bible verse that Savannah is focusing on this year is Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Storytelling, Physical Education
Michelle Huebner
Michelle Huebner is a homeschool mom of three; she currently resides in Parker, Colorado, together with her husband, three kids, ages 2, 5, and 7, and a noisy Pomeranian named Mowgli. Michelle misses the beautiful piece of countryside she grew up on in Ohio, and she loves bringing her kids back to explore and collect eggs from her dad’s chickens. Michelle attended Cedarville University in Ohio, where she studied communications and creative writing. There, she met her husband, Samuel, and they have been married 14 years. Before moving to Colorado, almost a decade ago, Michelle’s passions were trail running, her family’s intramural volleyball league, reading and writing fiction, and leading writing workshops. Now, Michelle‘s primary job is keeping a small boy alive, with the recruited help of his sisters, and also ignoring how fingerprinted the back glass door gets (because it doesn’t matter how often she cleans it, it will always be smudged.) Michelle enjoys cooking, reading to her kids, family dinners, and watching her children’s unique personalities develop. Her favorite day of the week will forever be Sunday, because she loves church, corporate worship (and drinking her husband’s home-roasted coffee out of her ember mug while her kids are tucked away in their church classes and can’t bump her.) Over the summer Michelle taught a story-time group at her church and was so blessed to watch the Bible come alive in such a tangible way for so many little ones. She also teaches preschool on Sunday mornings at Thrive Church. Michelle is captivated by the “Bible as literature,” and loves seeing the narrative arc play out across scripture. It makes her want to dance! Michelle’s guiding verse for homeschooling is Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Her passion is for her children to know and walk in the love of Christ. Michelle is honored to be a part of SCA as a teacher, and she is thrilled to be able to share what she’s learned with students!

Safety & First Aid
Heidi Kielian
Heidi was born in Gallup, New Mexico where her parents were missionaries on the Navajo Indian Reservation. They moved to Denver when she was about 2, so she considers herself a Colorado native. Heidi met her husband, Sean, at a fellowship group she and her sisters hosted at their house and, 16 years of marriage later, they are navigating all the different ages and stages of their four children, ages 13 down to 5. While Heidi grew up in a Christ-centered home with faithful parents, she believes she really grasped her sin and embraced Jesus as her Savior when she was a freshman in college. Throughout college, Heidi worked as the Assistant Coordinator for the Highlands Ranch Day Camps with kids ages 5-12 and also taught Red Cross Babysitting classes. Heidi got her degree as an RN and immediately after, she used that degree in an unexpected way to her, but fully in God’s plan- in caring for her sister who was critically injured in a car accident. She also did some Pediatric Home Health nursing and served with a medical missions organization, serving short- term in Uganda in refugee camps. Her calling the last 13 years has been raising and homeschooling her children- one of the greatest blessings of her life. Heidi and her husband are members at Southside Bible Church, where her husband serves as an elder and Heidi is the nursery coordinator. “It’s easy in a world of distractions and self-sufficiency to lose focus on my “why” in life- why do I do the things I do every day? And how do I trust Him in the most difficult of times? My anchor lies in Romans 11:36: “For from Him, and through Him, and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.” EVERYTHING flows from Him, is sustained through Him, and is ultimately for Him. He is the sovereign, reigning God who deserves all the glory- my prayer and desire is to bring Him honor in everything.”

Meet Our Support Team

Nurse, Classroom Aid
Haley Enos
Haley grew up in a Navy family, living on both the east and the west coast throughout her childhood, and exploring some fun places like Guam, before she went to college in Anderson, South Carolina. Haley met her husband, Sam, working at a Christian outdoor camp in Pennsylvania, and she moved out to Colorado in 2022 after they were engaged. They were married in 2023 and now live in the Denver area with their daughter, who they welcomed in April of 2025. Haley and Sam are members of Southside Bible Church, where they have been attending since early 2022 and enjoy any opportunity to serve and support the body. The community they have found there has brought them great joy and encouragement through many seasons of life.
After Haley graduated from Anderson University in South Carolina with her Bachelor’s of Science in nursing, she spent a year in SC working on an adult telemetry floor turned COVID floor during the pandemic. When Haley made her move out to Colorado, this was also a fun time to pursue a childhood dream of becoming a pediatric nurse! Haley has worked at HealthOne Rocky Mountain Children’s, located downtown and attached to Presbyterian St. Luke’s, since moving to Colorado, and has loved her time there. She has gained quite a lot of experience here in taking care of a variety of kiddos, including oncology patients, spinal fusions, the seasonal winter RSV and flu breakouts, and a whole host of all the other fun things that kids get themselves into. She holds certifications in pediatric advanced life support (PALS), pediatric chemotherapy administration (APHON), and is a Certified Pediatric Nurse. She is thrilled to get to know all of the families at SCA this year!
Haley grew up in a Christian home and is thankful that she does not recollect a time in which she did not know the Lord. Her testimony today includes many times of trial or struggle that the Lord used to draw her closer to him and make that childhood faith she grew up with stronger and more secure in his word. Haley began her nursing career in the midst of the COVID pandemic, and this brought along with it much intensity and grief, as the loss of many patients was a harsh reminder of our temporal nature on this earth. In the midst of this, however, the Lord was faithful to remind Haley of his promises to his children - a passage that Haley holds dear because of this is Revelation 21:3-5: And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

Art Classroom Aid
Tierney Heaslet
Tierney was born and raised in Colorado. She is blessed to be part of a loving family of 6. Ever since she was little, Tierney has loved arts and crafts, especially drawing. She really enjoys creating and learning new things! Tierney became a Christian in 2nd grade. On the way to school, she would often have talks with her dad about Jesus and what He has done for us. One morning, during the car ride to school, Tierney gave her life to Christ. Ever since then, she has continued to grow in her faith and love for the Lord. One of her favorite Bible passages that has stuck with her ever since grade school is Psalm 119:9-16, which says, "How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word. With all my heart I have sought You; do not let me wander from Your commandments. I have treasured Your word in my heart, so that I may not sin against You. Blessed are You, Lord; teach me Your statutes. With my lips I have told of all the ordinances of Your mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate on Your precepts and regard Your ways. I shall delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word." A few years after graduating from homeschool high school, Tierney started work as a respite care provider for PASCO, by taking care of her sister, Jenay. She currently attends Southside Bible Church with her family and helps prepare craft materials for the Pre-K to 1st grade Sunday school class. She is excited to be a part of SCA!

Operations Assistant
Andre'a Ryan
Andre'a is a Colorado native, having lived in the metro area and ski towns in Summit County. She is the only daughter of 8 and loves being a party of a big, loud, fun family. She attended Chaparral Highschool in Parker Colorado where she met her highschool best friend turned husband. In her early 20s, they married after his time spent in the military, had their only daughter and radically became a Christian. She soon after quit her job to homeschool full time and be a wife. Since then, her family has attended Southside Bible Church where they have built strong family like relationships.
She is a part of many ministries, such as the Ladies Entrench team, Ladies Fellowship Planning, and the Prison ministry. Her daughter attended SCA in its first year and while volunteering Andre'a fell in love with the children and mission of the staff and felt the Lord calling to join the team full time.
"My favorite part of Scripture is what the Lord used to save me, as I pled to know His mercy and grace. Romans 3:19-24 'Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,'"
Andre'a is beyond excited and thankful for the opportunity to work with the children and families of SCA! She was so encouraged and so blessed meeting many of them in the first school year!
